One of my favorite shows in Sweet Eats!
If you’ve never seen an episode, please go watch it – NOW!
There was this one particular episode where they were doing donut shops and man oh man, this one lady had the most amazing looking donuts. She said her trick was using brioche dough and Rice Oil when frying them. So of course, you know I had to go find some Rice Oil.
On one of my many trips to New Jersey, I visited one of my father’s favorite Asian markets and low and behold, they had RICE OIL!!!!
I was totally ecstatic and new my first order of business was to make some donuts. So, I looked online and found a myriad of recipes for brioche dough. After combing through comments, I decided to make my own and it turned out great!
My daughter loved it – she LOVES bread. With this recipe, I split it in 2 and used one half for a loaf of bread and the other half for these donuts.
You will need the following ingredients:
(Check out the Brioche Bread recipe ingredients HERE)
– 6 cups Rice Oil
Powder Sugar Topping
– 1 cup powder sugar
Lavender Sugar Topping
– 1 cup powder sugar
– ½ cup brown sugar
– 1 table spoon bakers Lavender
Raspberry Sauce Topping
– 1 ½ cup powder sugar
– ½ cup water
– ¼ cup white sugar
– 1 8 oz pkg raspberries
Roll out your broche dough on to a sheet of wax paper. Use a donut cutter (or a biscuit cutter) to make your donuts.
After you have all your donuts cut, let them rise about 30 minutes.
Heat your Rice Oil in a wide/deep open mouth pot. (This will make it easier for flipping)
After your donuts have risen, place them in the oil for frying. It only takes about 2 minutes per side. Once they are golden brown, remove them from the oil to drain and slightly cool.
Add or dip them in your toppings.
Powder Sugar Topping:
The powder sugar is the easiest and most common. Just place the powder sugar in a bowl and toss the donut in the sugar on either side and enjoy.
Lavender Sugar Topping:
Combine all the ingredients thoroughly in a bowl. Next toss the donut in the Lavender sugar on either side and enjoy.
Raspberry Sauce Topping:
Boil the raspberries in the water and add the white sugar. After the berries have boiled, strain the whole berries from the syrup. Let the syrup cool about 5 minutes.
After the syrup has cooled add the powdered sugar. Stir to combine and place in a bowl. Next toss the donut in the sauce on either side and enjoy.
