5 Minutes of Om: Yoga w/ Motiv8_Me
In this post, I want to introduce one of my VERY BEST friends. I met her in 2003 when we both attended the Art Institute of Washington. No one would have ever known how our friendship would begin and flourish. She is one of the most dedicated, talented and amazing “Artist Mommies” I know!
By day, she works for the Bureau of Prisons in Washington DC. However, her hippie artistic spirit is set aside when she is at werk in the gym. Over the past 2 years she has been working out and using Yoga to transform her body and baaaayyyybbeee – She is Beach Ready ALL year round!
Beach Ready ALL year round!
She is a total inspiration when her youngest, my GodSon, is just over a year old. I totally plan to have her as my trainer after my next pregnancy, but for right now – we encourage each other and Yoga is one of those connecting bonds we share.
ImSimplyD: When did you get into yoga?
Motiv8_Me: I started yoga January 16, 2013. I attempted a handstand and a few other poses and discovered I was horrible at it.
ImSimplyD: What made you stick with Yoga?
Motiv8_Me: After trying it that first day, I saw that my balance sucked, I had no flexibility and it scared the crap out of me, which sparked my interest and provided a challenge. After that workout, if that’s what you want to call it I began following as many yoga people that I could on Instagram and finding challenges. I found the #armyarmbalance challenge and it was HARD, but it was the best thing that could have EVER happened to me.
ImSimplyD: What did you do before yoga?
Motiv8_Me: Before yoga, I did what a lot of people do every year claiming to workout and be fit. I was what most fit people refer to “the New Years Resolution” chick; slim, but not fit or healthy… taking up the gym for two weeks to a month before I became uninterested or too busy.
ImSimplyD: What do you do besides yoga?
Motiv8_Me: Along with practicing yoga, I found a passion for fitness in general, weights, calisthenics and eating better. I try to tie yoga into everything being as though my schedule outside of being fit can be a bit hectic. I am a mom of 2, I work for the Bureau of Prisons, a photographer and artist, and a FT Grad student pursuing my Masters in Science. No matter my schedule and obligations, I find/make some time for me and fitness; that’s all that matters.
