DIY: T-shirt Necklace
Accessories are the pop in many outfits!
For this DIY, I wanted to show you guys how to make these super cute and easy t-shirt necklaces. This DIY is the perfect upcycle.
If you’re anything like me, you have a drawer full of t-shirts you’ve acquired over the years from various vacations, organizations, promotional events, hotel stays, and more! I decided to use cut those babies up and make some necklaces to wear to work.
Lets get Started!
For this project you will need:
a t-shirt (I used 4 in this multicolored tut)
First you want to cut the hem off the shirt and discard it.
Next you want to cut the tshirt in to 1 inch strips all the way across.
Keep cutting until you reach right under the arm sleeves.
This will give you enough pieces to make your necklace.
Next you want to stretch each piece you cut. Just pull gently and the strips will curl in to thin rope like pieces.
Once you have all your pieces stretched, decided how thick you want your necklace.
Leave 2 ropes for the neck band and 2 pieces for the side wrapping. (This will make sense soon.)
Now put your pieces together and twist or leave them straight, holding both end loops.
This will be your bottom curve of the necklace.
To finish, take one of the pieces you saved for the side wrapping and bring it around the end you have tied to the neck strap. Loop it over and pull it through and wrap it around and around.
When you come to the end, snip it and tie a knot with it onto one of the wrapped layers. Gently tuck then snipped end into the ball. Repeat this on the other side.
You’re all done. That was super fast and easy right?! You can create these so many ways. As you will see below, there were some I just left as loops and others I braided, there are also some I kept one color and others I mixed.
I hope you enjoyed this upcycle DIY tutorial.
